Steal like an Artist

I’ve read other Kleon books, I’ve actully read this one before but that was in another life. This time it’s different.

I really like reading Austin’s books, I feel like they get to the point very quickly and are easily digested without feeling like I’m getting gipped.

In this book he really touches on creativity with 10 rules? Bulletpoints? Meditations? Maybe meditations…kind of.

Well regardless.

I know there are plenty reviews or summaries of this book, so I’m not going to rehash that, instead I’m going to go over a few quotes that really spoke to me.

Be comfortable being misunderstood, disparged or ignored. I love this. I’ve been on a real unbothered kick and this has already changed my life and seeing it here was just the universe reminding me how important this is.

Complain about the way other people make software by making your own. I love this bit of advice, I mean it makes absolotue sense right? If you want it done better do it your dang self.

Do the work you want to see done. This feeds into the point above. If there’s something you’d love to see, do it. It’s a lot harder than it seems, but it’s also a lot easier. What a conundrum huh?

There’s no pressure when no one knows you. This is so true. We think that people are always watching, and maybe they are, but at the end of the day we are free in our anonymity. So enjoy it. Get lost and remix things.

Overall, I really like this book. Even after having read it multiple times in the past, I feel as if I still found new things within it.

I guess more than anything, read the book, you really won’t regret it.
