Letting People Choose

Ethics are something we don’t seem to really talk about. the idea of doing what’s right regardless of what’s best for us doesn’t seem to have a place in our hyper-capitalistic society. But it does.

In fact.

Ethics saved our country. In the Jan 6 hearings, we saw time and time again how white, Christian men wrestled with what was right and what they wanted. They chose integrity and ethics.

So what are ethics?

Britanica.com defines ethics as, “the discipline concerned with what is morally good and bad and morally right and wrong.“

How do we define right and wrong?

I guess the simplest way to think about it is that it’s whether or not our actions hurt others. If they do, then they can’t really be good, can they?

But I guess we have to be very careful on how we define good right?

Some people think it’s good to choose a fetus over the life of the woman who’s carrying it. Some people think it’s their life mission to spread the teachings of their religion.

So how do we redefine these things?

Or maybe it’s just about choice. (Yes, again.)

We have to allow people to have the choice. You can choose what you do with your body, you can choose what religion you want to follow or explore, you have to be allowed to choose.

Like for real.
