The Rest of Us Just Live Here

So I absolutely love Patrick Ness, like loooooveeeeeeeeeeeeee him. He normally devastates me but his book did something different.

We’re always obsessed with the hero, the idea of being extraordinary and just meant to be different. We get to see their exploits, but what about the so called ordinary folk? What do they see while all these crazy things are happening? That’s the premise of this story.

It’s written with a short summary of what’s happening in the “main” story at the top of each chapter while the chapter itself goes into what the side characters are doing.

I loved this idea. I feel like we could have an entire series based on what’s going on in the “background.”

I feel that with the focus on social media we can get lost in the desire to be the ‘main” character so to speak.
