Standards

Let’s talk about standards and how we feel about the very word “standards.”  I’ve gone back and forth on this idea to be completely honest. For the longest time, I thought, yeah I have these standards and that’s that. Check. Then I read somewhere that having expectations was toxic, so I thought about it again. No expectations. Allow people to be themselves and love them for it. Check.

Honestly, this was a bad move.

One giant disaster later I’ve decided that standards are a good thing. Standards are my way of saying, hey, this is the baseline. Don’t. And I mean for real. Don’t be a dick. Treat me well. Communicate. Be groovy you know?

Now, I don’t mean to say I expect you to be perfect. God knows I’m not. But what I do expect is that you’ll be working on you while I’m working on me and we can come together and work on ourselves.
