Hearstopper

Heartstopper series in general is simply amazing. Sometimes I think that as we grow older and things begin to change, we think that the trails of our youth aren’t the trails of today. While being LGBTQIA+ today may not seem as horrific as 15 years ago, there are still things that need to change as evidenced by new YA fiction.

Heartstopper is a series that really delves into being a gay youth, the adventure of falling in love for the first time, of dealing with coming out, of eating disorders and other issues, of just being gay.

What I love most about this series, about quite a few of these YA LGBT books, is that there is an element of hope. Old school movies and stories all had so much pain in them, pain in the process, pain in the actions, and pain in the ending, something has changed. Now…now there is hope.

Maybe that’s worth more than anything.

Yes times are terrible in this polticial climate, yes there is still such a ways to go and there are setbacks that often feel like a knife to the heart but through it all, we have hope. Hope for a better world, a world that sees us for who we are both the good and the bad, and chooses to see as another person in their community.
