Chaos Walking

This week we’re looking at a trilogy, a YA trilogy by an author I’ve newly discovered. Patrick Ness. I had recently read A Monster Calls and found myself completely devasted, the beauty of his words, of his work, is something I’m still coming to terms with, to be honest, but I couldn’t help reading more.

Instead of going through each book and explaining what happens, this post is about what the books mean. What lies beneath its beautiful prose.

The main idea behind this trilogy, if I were to be so bold as to state, is staying true to yourself no matter what. That throughout our lives we are faced with moments where we are asked to choose, to either bow to go against the very fabric of our being or to stay true no matter how painful it may be. That there are countless people who work towards changing us, situations that ask us who we truly want to be. This book speaks to those moments. I cried in parts, I could feel my soul tearing apart at times, my heart aching in ways I’ve only ached in real life. But in those moments I was also filled with a resolve, with hope, with faith that we can remain true to our true selves.

I live my life this way and seeing it on paper gave me a peace I can't explain.

This set of books is one I wish would continue. I’m going to continue reading Ness’ books, and hopefully, you’ll end up reading with me.
